Smithville issued a boil water notice for its water customers on Thursday due to a drop in pressure in its water system.

The city of Smithville on Thursday issued a boil-water notice for its water customers due to a weather-related pressure drop in its water system.

Customers are asked to boil their water to a vigorous, rolling boil and then let it boil for two minutes to ensure any harmful bacteria or other microbes are destroyed. Let the water cool before using it for drinking, cooking, hand washing or any other consumption or use.

Residents who are unable to boil their water are advised to “purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source,” the city said.

When it’s no longer necessary to boil water, system officials will notify customers on the city’s website and Facebook page.

Any customers with questions regarding the boil-water notice may call Smithville Public Works Director Jack Page at 512-848-6539.
