45rpm for 45 years: Hole in the Wall celebrates with a single
What better way for a historic Austin music venue to celebrate its 45th anniversary than the release of a 45rpm 7-inch single? That's what University of Texas campus-area hangout Hole in the Wall is doing, and they've come upon an ideal "way" to choose songs reflecting both the club's past and its "future."
Country band Mike & the Moonpies and indie-pop performer PR Newman will do the honors by covering two songs that first got an airing at Hole in the Wall, before they went on to become nationwide top-40 singles. Newman is doing Timbuk3's "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades," a fave of mid-1980s Hole audiences before it became a hit in the fall of 1986. The Moonpies get "The Way," which helped turn Fastball from Hole regulars into rock stars upon its release in early 1998.
