The late Texas coach Abe Lemons, who guided the Longhorns from 1977-82, will be honored during a tournament this season at the Erwin Center.

I had to make a hard decision when I was editing on deadline after the game between the Texas Longhorns against the North Carolina Tar Heels. I felt that I picked the wrong image that evening and this images should have ran on the front page of the Sports section on Sunday, December 13, 2015. I was lucky to be able to capture so many images that showed the players, coaches, and fans burst of emotion in one photo. This was just a regular season game but the buzzer-beater felt like it was March Madness in December. It is 4:30 am on a Wednesday morning, August 11, 2010 and thousands of performers wait in line outside of the Frank Erwin center just to have a chance to audition in front of American Idol judges. Some people are sleep on the hard concrete, some are singing, others are playing board games and cards. However, Carene Nforbinson of Dallas was in her own world texting on a blackberry device many of us find hard to go an entire day without one glued to our hands or in a pouch on our hip. Nevertheless, it was at this moment Nforbinson gave me something different to photograph. Her large curly Afro silhouetted against the bright gold Frank Erwin center stood out to me and was begging me to squeeze off several frames before she notices me and move. It was a good feeling to find something different. I was searching through so many people who looked very similar to me that morning, and besides of all of the searching and walking around that I was doing. I was still very sleepy, so in other words you could say I searched and photograph this photo half sleep, LOL. Not that bad to work with one “eye” open and one “eye” closed.

Former Texas star basketball and NBA player T.J. Ford returned to campus to finish his college career and graduate after several long years of work and invited his former coach Rick Barnes to be there. Barnes kissed Ford, congratulating him on the long road and hard work it took him to finish his degree. Ford broke down in tears at the close relationship the two have developed through the years.
